Originally a farm town serving the settlers of the Carson Valley, Gardnerville Nevada has long been famous for Basque restaurants, as modern Gardnerville offers all sorts of fine amenities and services to travelers.

Gardnerville was founded in 1879 by Lawrence Gilman of Genoa. It was a centrally located town to support other nearby areas and was named for local residents, John and Mary Gardner by Gilman when they purchased this land for Gardnerville in 1879. Today, US Highway 395 runs through the center of Gardnerville, making it a quick journey to Minden, Smith Valley, Dayton, Reno, Lake Tahoe and beyond.
